5 Haunted Places You Absolutely Must Not Visit this Halloween in KL

5 haunted places in KL you must not visit in Halloween 2021

With October being the month of Halloween, who needs Night of Frights when the city has real haunted areas that will chill you to the bone. Like any other large city in the world, KL has its share of places whose claim to fame rests only on how haunted they are. Drawing intrigue and fear from the public, these are the top 5 haunted places in KL that you absolutely must not go to this Halloween (unless you are one of those stupidly brave souls). We have also listed the 6 most haunted places beyond KL. Read HERE

1. Bukit Tunku

Bukit Tunku is an exclusive neighbourhood that houses some of the most expensive homes in KL. However, do not be mistaken by its well-heeled facade. It is one of the most haunted places in KL city. An unnamed mansion located in the area, which is also a heritage building, is a well known site for paranormal activities. Professional ghost hunters who have investigated the house report possessions, feelings of overwhelming nausea and inexplicable voices and shrieks. But it isn’t just the house that is haunted. The roads that wind through the hills are also known for ghost sightings, most notably the apparition of a motorcycle rider on a phantom bike. There is also compelling footage online of a motorist who encountered a ghostly figure sat in the middle of the road while driving through the area (see pic above). So the next time your journey takes you through the winding roads of Bukit Tunku, watch out. Who knows what could be lurking beyond the next bend.

2. Victoria Institution

One of the oldest secondary schools in Malaysia, Victoria Institution was founded by the British to commemorate the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria. During World War II, the school was used by the Japanese to imprison enemy combatants. Unofficial word is that captives from the Allied Forces were tortured and even killed on the grounds of the school. Students have reported sightings of ghostly apparitions during the day and night and perhaps the most well known paranormal event reported is the possession story of a marching band student. He was alone in the school late one evening when he found himself on top of the water tank with no recollection of how he got there. According to the student, the last thing he remembered was asking a girl he saw where she was going before waking up on the rooftop. Creepy.

3. Mona Fandey’s House

Mona Fandey eerily predicted that she would never die and this might well prove to be true. A pop star who fell from grace by murdering politician Mazlan Idris in 1993, Mona dabbled in black magic and was a self-professed bomoh. Mona Fandey lives on in notoriety even after her execution in 2001 at the age of 45. Her house still stands today, albeit abandoned, and is located in Seksyen 12 in Shah Alam. The house is said to be haunted by spirits as a result of the black magic that she practiced while living there. The closest you’ll get to the house is the road that runs alongside it as it sits on the property of the Selangor Royal Family estate. However, those who have ventured out to find it all agree that the house carries very dark energy that is undeniable.

4. Mimaland, Gombak

A popular spot for local tourists in the 80s and 90s has become one of the most popular haunted places in KL, Mimaland was a water theme park that shut its doors in 1994 and has since been left to decay. While there haven’t been any official ghost sightings, visitors describe the place as unmistakably eerie. The park was plagued with calamity after calamity while in operation, beginning with the freak death of a Singaporean tourist, and not long after, a landslide completely destroyed the pool in the early 90s. Since shutting its doors, the place has been left to be taken over by nature, leaving it in a state of dereliction ripe for haunting.

5. Highland Towers

One of the worst tragedies to have befallen Kuala Lumpur, Highland Towers has since made it onto many haunted lists of famous haunted places in KL. Those who are old enough will no doubt remember the terrible tragedy that claimed the lives of 48 people. Located in Bukit Antarabangsa, the buildings stand abandoned today and have been subject to much vandalism and illegal activity. However, ghost hunters who have ventured to explore the crumbling towers have had many ghostly encounters including the sighting of an old lady’s apparition along with that of a baby. Incidentally, two of the victims were a 77 year old grandmother and an 8-month-old baby. The buildings have since been scheduled for demolition in 2019 so for all you ghost hunters out there, go now before you miss your chance.

So these are our top 5 haunted places KL for all you intrepid ghost hunters to explore in KL this Halloween. For those of you who prefer not to tempt the deceased, we are with you on that. You can experience the adrenaline rush of a fictional haunting in the spooky hallways of the Hauntu Colle Eastern Hotel. 3 Important Hauntu Tips to Get the Best Ending Possible (Save Aizat)

3 Important Hauntu Tips to Get the Best Ending Possible (Save Aizat)

So, you’ve been coming back to Hauntu to attempt a different outcome for Episode 2: The Tourist. The best outcome perhaps, knowing that your mission is to SAVE AIZAT and triumph over the evil entity of the Colle Eastern. If you haven’t had much success – and most people haven’t – here are some tips that may clue you into what you need to do to be saviour of the day. And with Merdeka is in this month, we can’t think of a better time in the year to have another go at Hauntu Episode 2 which set back in Merdeka day 1957, armed with these three important tips in your ghost-busting arsenal.

Tips 1: The Locked File Cabinet

Hauntu - secret ending tips

Early on, you will be led to a room resembling a typical office. Here, you will see many objects with locks – doors, filing cabinets, boxes. Most people find themselves mildly disoriented at this stage, still adjusting to the suspense and anxious pace of the game. However, you will need to put your detective skills to test in this room. There are Some Documents & an Important Item for Anis (read no.2) kept in this office that will reveal to you some important clues. Perhaps you may want to ask yourself: Did I miss anything when I met Iman?

Tips 2: Anis’s request

Hauntu Anis

Anis is a key character in the story who is unmissable. Anis will be clutching a doll, mumbling what may first appear to be an incoherent slew of words and requests. However, the appearance of this character isn’t just there to unsettle you. If you pay close attention to what Anis is saying, you may pick up on a “small request” that is easily missed in the context of Anis’s seemingly incoherent ramblings. The request may or may not be repeated so listen closely and you may be rewarded with an important clue.

Tips 3: Timing

Hauntu Sarimah

This is rather difficult to explain and you will only know how important timing is if you have made the right decisions beforehand.

Unlike Breakout escape game where you will get hints from the game master. At Hauntu, You must follow through the storyline and if you have made the correct choices early on in the experience, you will have much needed information to know when and how to act when you finally meet Aizat. Perhaps there is something Aizat needs to know? And perhaps everyone is possibly saved.  This may sound somewhat cryptic but it is as much as we can say without giving the game away.

These 3 important Hauntu tips should help you complete your mission to save Aizat. This is the least common outcome and to come out triumphant would put you well in the ranks of the brawniest and brainiest of all who have attempted Hauntu.

The Tourist Ep2 will be ending around the 3rd quarter of 2021 before the debut of Ep3 The Investigator. Make sure you don’t miss it before it’s gone forever.

6 Tips We Warned You Before Experiencing Hauntu

6 Tips We Warned You Before Experiencing Hauntu

So you’ve decided to experience Hauntu, or maybe you’re on the fence about it, wondering whether or not to take the plunge. You may be wondering what one can expect. Will there be blood? Is it really dark? How interactive is interactive exactly? Without giving too much away and potentially ruining the experience by setting expectations, here are 6 tips before experiencing Hauntu for everyone that will ensure you get the most fun out of your time with us.

  1. Drop your expectations and surrender to the experience

Do not expect this to be an escape game like Breakout or a normal, conventional haunted house. There is a storyline, it is scary and yes, it is also a game. The best thing you can do is to let go of expectations and surrender to the experience. Enjoy the adrenaline rush of not knowing what’s next and go with it.

We promise you that your experience will be hell a lot more fun if you let yourself be absorbed in the experience and interact with the actors in a way that is conducive to the story.

And what do we mean by interacting in a way that is conducive to the story?

We mean asking relevant questions about the character guiding you or what you should do next and leaving out personal and useless questions directed at the actors or about the set.

For example, asking an actor why they chose this job or what their names are in real life, asking them questions about how the props are made etc. are not only ruins the atmosphere for your fellow players, it also makes it difficult for the actors to stay in character.

So please, try not to be that one disinterested person laughing at everything being not real and trying to point out the illusion ALL THE TIME. We all know that bravado is a known coping mechanism for fear anyway, so at the end of the day you are only drawing attention to you being shit scared while putting a damper on the experience for the rest.

Our top tip really cannot be stressed enough – surrender to the experience, engage, don’t fight the fright, and let yourself be transported to a completely different world for the hour and a half that you have at HAUNTU.

  1. Pay attention

We understand – there is a lot to take in. Not only is your heart rate going crazy, you don’t really know what is expected of you next and there is so much to take in around you.

Some people do not seem to realise that they are actually the centre of the show and that there are multiple endings depending on the way you interact and the choices you make. So listen for hints that the actors might be alluding to, read the materials you are handed, observe your surroundings and try to piece things together. Active engagement is key.

Also, we did not incorporate interactive theatre for you to just be a spectator. Our actors are really brilliant at what they do and they are masters of improv. They are there to guide you through the experience, so if you are in doubt of what you need to do next, ask questions.

  1. Please respect the rules

It goes without saying that you should obey the rules set out in the video reel you will watch beforehand that outlines the dos and don’ts while experiencing HAUNTU.

It is really important that you do so in order to ensure the safety of yourself, your fellow players and also our actors. Behaving recklessly could very well end up causing accidental mishaps. As cool as the setting is, it is not a playground so please treat it with respect.

Know that you won’t be achieving anything except the scorn of the actors and the operator if you behave in a way that is inappropriate, dangerous, rude or just downright disrespectful. Again, don’t be THAT person.

  1. Only go with sporting people

Choose your friends wisely.

Even if you might be put in a group with strangers if you’re a small group, if everyone adhered to this rule, we would have no complaints about any of our players.

Go with people who you know will not be criticising everything the entire time as if they are professional haunted house critics (even if this is their first time in one).

Also, it might not be the best idea to invite that one friend who is terrified of everything. You really don’t want to spend most of your time cajoling them to continue on. Unfortunately, you will not be refunded if you decide that you are too terrified to continue, which is why it’s also best to leave young children at home.

We have also had the unfortunate job of cleaning up after players before. Let’s just say their lunch ended up on the floor and they probably should also have emptied their bladder beforehand. But don’t let this put you off. Such incidences are extremely rare and 99.9% of our players make it through incident free and have a great time to boot.

So pick a group of people you know will enjoy it as much as yourself to go with and you will not be disappointed. You will have a lot more fun with people who are willing to engage and are just as willing as you are to surrender to the experience.

  1. Dress Comfortably

Practical advice, but good advice anyway.

There will be crawling and some climbing, not to mention pushing and shoving (by your overexcited friends of course).

So please dress in a way that is comfortable. We recommend trousers for both ladies and gents and comfortable shoes like sneakers or flats.

This is not a time to dress to impress. Save that for another day.

  1. Pre-book your session and make a day out of it

Like all good things in life, sharing in the experience will make it that much more special and memorable. So make a day out of it and pre-book a session in advance online

We recommend pre booking in advance so you won’t be disappointed by showing up as a small group and getting turned away.

Also, if you plan ahead, you could even get a group large enough to pre-book a private session all to yourselves!

Of course you can show up at HAUNTU, alone, on a wednesday afternoon. That’s fine too. Our recommendation though, is that coming as a group of friends will be more fun and memorable for everyone.

Thank you for visiting our website! We look forward to hosting you and your friends at HAUNTU. Be prepared to be scared, be prepared to laugh, but most importantly, be prepared for a truly unique and fun experience. See you soon!

24 Hours in KL: How to Spend a Fun Filled Day in Kuala Lumpur

If You Only Have 24 hours in KL. How do you spend your day?

If you only have 24 hours in Kuala Lumpur, fear not. We have come up with a list of fun activities that will get you well acquainted with the city’s best and make the most of your limited time here in KL.

Dataran Merdeka Image by Timeout

0800 – 0900 | Start your day by paying homage to the founding of modern Malaysia with a trip to Dataran Merdeka or Merdeka Square. Tunku Abdul Rahman declared independence right here in 1957, a momentous event that marked the end of over 100 years of British colonial rule. Beat the crowds and heat by getting here early.

0900 – 1100 | From Dataran Merdeka, walk past the Sultan Abdul Samad building and cross the river. Spend some time in the picturesque Masjid Jamek before heading to Chinatown and Petaling street on foot. Continue to explore the Taoist, Buddhist and Hindu temples that dot the area, and dive into the bustling local street scene. Stop by the few quirky if somewhat hidden artisanal coffee shops in the area if you need to cool off or get that all necessary caffeine kick.

1200 – 1300 |  Grab some lunch in one of the many restaurants in the area to top up on some much needed energy. If you’re quick with time, you could even squeeze in a little bit of retail therapy in the adjacent shopping centres.

KLCC

1300 – 1400 | No trip to Kuala Lumpur would be complete without a visit to the iconic KLCC twin towers. Explore the well manicured grounds and head to the 86th floor for that memorable skyline view or indulge in more shopping while enjoying the air conditioning during the hottest part of the day.

Book your hauntu experience | Hauntu House KL | Haunted Places

HAUNTU, The LINC KL

1400 – 1600 | From KLCC, head towards LINC on Jalan Tun Razak and get yourself nicely spooked at HauntU, KL’s very first interactive and fully immersive haunted house experience. A uniquely Malaysian haunted experience set in a meticulously recreated colonial era hotel, feel what it was like to live through Merdeka Day in the latest installment of their 3 part series while putting your brawn and nerve to the test. The intrepid may attempt this alone, but we recommend bringing a friend along. Save your spot by pre-booking on our website here

Canopy walk at Bukit Nanas.

1600 – 1700 | From HauntU, take a Grab to KL Forest Eco Park, a verdant patch of jungle right here in the city of KL. Take a walk through the many forest trails and don’t miss out on the canopy walk. The best part of this activity? It’s free.

1700 – 1800 | From KL Eco Forest Park, walk to the nearby KL Tower and head to the observation deck. Feel what it’s like to walk on air and have your legs turn to jelly in the sky box.

Sunset from the Heli Lounge, Menara KH.

1800 – 1930 | As sunset rolls around, head towards Menara KH to the rooftop Heli Lounge, arguably the best place to catch the sunset in KL City. Sit back, relax, grab a drink and enjoy nature’s very own light show right above your head.

1930 – 2200 | Kuala Lumpur, while beautiful during the day, is something to behold at night. The city continues to bustle with activity under the night sky and the twin towers are stunningly lit up. Take in the night life and enjoy the drop in temperature. For something fun and different, we recommend heading back towards Chinatown to grab a drink at The Deceased KL, a horror themed cocktail bar with a hidden entrance. Be sure to reserve a table as the place tends to get busy, especially on the weekends.

Top 5 Complaints from HAUNTU Ghosts (BTS)

Top 5 Complaints from HAUNTU Ghosts (BTS)

Literally nobody:

Me: Hey guys, I know lots of you have been admiring our ghost master’s job. It’s so cool to be paid to scare the sh*t out of people. Right? Behold! Today I will reveal the Top 5 complaints from your fellow ghosts masters. Let’s see if you fall into any of these categories.

1. Ghost Master Mark: “I told them to explore this corner, but they go to the other corner! SMH”

Ghost masters sometimes wonder if they have been speaking an alien language, especially in face of customers who do the complete opposite of what’s being told all the time. More often than not, our ghost masters always give you instructions that help you to get the best experience.

So, the win-win situation is for you to play along with our ghost masters, do as they say.

2. Ghost Master Felicia: “When a player hit/touch me, by reflex I almost hit them back.”

Well, yes yes I know. Science taught us that humans get into either fight or flight mode when in danger. But please, always opt for flight. Let’s all be civilised

3. Ghost Master Ahmad: “S/he’s alone?? OMG please don’t chicken out.”

More often than not, we have guests who check-in alone (idk where they get the courage to do so but I could use some). The result is, barely 10 minutes in and they freaked out. Since policy stated strictly no refund, it’s such a waste that you can’t experience the 5-star scare treatment from our ghost masters. Don’t you agree?

Here’s a tip for you. Come with 7 or more friends.

Why? It is definitely safer when you are sandwiched between your friends because you don’t have to worry about your exposed back during the experience 🤣

Another tip for you. If you come with less than 10 people, you will need to check-in with other people to make up to 10. So, bring more to get a private experience! (maximum 10 players per entry).

4. Ghost Master Keisha: “Dato Lokman, customer broke the door. Can I get them to pay for the damage?”

To pay, or not to pay. That is the question.

This is by far Colle Eastern Hotel management team’s number 1 challenge. We love our guests and so we always want to give them the best experience. It always breaks our heart whenever there is damage caused because while policy states that we can hold our guests accountable for the damage, most importantly we want them to have a pleasant stay with us.

In some extreme instances, we do request to be compensated for the damage. However, some customers tend to get upset over our request despite being briefed for the 999th time by our lobby girl/boy that “No brute force is allowed in this premise”!

As we are a 5-star hotel, we always ensure that every nook and cranny of the hotel is kept at its highest standard. Thus, every time damage happens, our ghost masters (aka Fix-It-Felix) attend to it immediately and fix it within the shortest time possible for the next group of guests. Kesian mereka.

5. Ghost Master Izzat: “Sigh! When they don’t scream when they are supposed to, I just… argh”

Top 1 most awkward scenario for ghost masters is when our guests don’t scream. At all.

*awkward silence with cricket sound in the background*

Ghost masters fall into a deep existential crisis when that happens. 🤣

So, do play along and give us at least 1 fake scream or laugh even if you are the cool guy in the group. Making you scream is our highest satisfaction (also achieving our KPIs). Else, leave us a feedback at the end so we can give you a better scare when you return for episode 2!

Wow, you guys made it here! Tag your friends if you think they are listed in one of the categories and like this post! Stay tuned for more of our updates and please follow our official account on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter @hauntumy.

What is Hauntu ? What is An Interactive Haunted House Experience?

What Is Hauntu? What does Interactive haunted house means?

2 ladies and 1 guy in hauted house looking scare

Hauntu (pronounced haunt-you or Hantu if you like). What is Hauntu? Is Hauntu a usual haunted house or an actual haunted place? NO. It’s Malaysia’s first and only immersive horror experience or as known as an interactive haunted house in layman terms.

Hauntu is a blend of live theatre, role play, and storytelling that comes together to provide an engaging experience that’s never been offered before in Kuala Lumpur.

More than just screaming and jump scares, Hauntu is not a conventional haunted house that you will expect. Hauntu features real actors that will interact with players, providing immersive audience interaction, intricate mazes, and interconnected terrifying storylines that center around a colonial hotel filled with mystery and the paranormal.

There are 3 stories center around Hauntu, which all take place at the Hauntu ‘Colle Eastern Hotel’, constructed in the architectural style of British colonial buildings of Old Malaya. Over the span of a few months, one story will be open for the public to experience. Even though the three stories are interconnected, guests will still be able to have the complete experience regardless of which story they begin their Hauntu experience with. Currently, Hauntu is show casing episode and the next episode is expected to debut in December 2021.

Unlike escape rooms such as Breakout, where the aim for guests is to escape and solve puzzles – at Hauntu, the guests take on character roles within the story with the objective of committing a fictional crime or completing a mission and absolutely NO puzzles to be solved. If you are not a puzzle person, this is for you.

If you are a fan of horror movies, haunted places or the paranormal, this interactive haunted house is definitely an experience that you must try before you die. Watch the video from SAYS below to get a better idea and read some of our reviews from Tripadvisor.

Is Hauntu Reopening Its Haunted House for Halloween 2021?

As the covid-19 pandemic is still serious in Malaysia, Hauntu is still not allowed to operate under the SOP set by the government. Ep2 The Tourist is the current running storyline and Ep3 The Investigator is set to launch once they are allowed to reopen.

Hauntu is looking at reopening their interactive haunted house to the public during the Halloween 2021 period but is subject to government regulation and the Covid-19 situation.
