PETALING JAYA, 1 August 2023 – Hauntu, the acclaimed pioneer in immersive horror entertainment by Superdough, takes a bold step ahead with the launch of its second location, Hauntu The Curve. The second outlet offers a thrilling experience inspired by one of Malaysia’s oldest performing arts forms, redefining horror entertainment via a seamless fusion of tradition and innovation.

We wanted to create an experience that truly immersed our audience in the chilling world of horror, while also celebrating the richness of Malaysian cultural heritage,” said Johnny Ong Jenn Uei, Hauntu’s Co-founder and Head of Operations and Experience Design. “By seamlessly blending cutting-edge technology with the captivating allure of traditional art forms, we’ve created an encounter that goes beyond mere jump scares, leaving our audience with a profound sense of wonder and exhilaration.”

Those who embark on the intriguing trip are asked to put themselves in the shoes of courageous siblings on a perilous hunt for their missing mother. Drawn by a cryptic note, participants experience chilling mysteries in the fictional Seri Panggung Academy, entwined with old performing arts. As they delve deeper, a formidable and terrifying presence emerges, leading to a heart-pounding quest to uncover the truth. This immersive horror experience not only captivates with its creativity and finely built set designs, but it also pays homage to Malaysia’s vibrant cultural heritage, perfectly blending tradition and innovation.

We proudly collaborate with prominent local cultural institutions, such as PUSAKA, to ensure authenticity and genuine reverence for Malaysia’s rich legacy. This significant collaboration infuses the attraction with the essence of the country’s folklore and traditional storytelling, enveloping guests in an awe-inspiring journey that not only sends shivers down their spines but also pays heartfelt homage to the vibrant tapestry of the country’s cultural legacy,” added Johnny Ong.

Hauntu The Curve creates an exceptional and distinctly Malaysian narrative that transcends cultural barriers by drawing inspiration from the art traditions of Kuda Kepang and Wayang Kulit, as well as the allure of traditional Malay performances and attire, particularly drawing inspiration from the beauty of Mak Yong’s ensembles. The 60-minute immersive adventure combines tradition with original storytelling, providing all participants with a uniquely Malaysian yet universally entertaining experience. Hauntu The Curve also allows participants to create their own immersive experiences. Throughout their journey, professional actors skilfully guide and interact with them, seamlessly blending the fictional world with reality. These talented actors respond dynamically to the participants’ choices, emotions, and actions, creating a fully immersive and personalised adventure.

Our recent consumer survey with 441 Malaysian participants reveals a startling insight: nearly 100% of horror fans (96.60%) crave a compelling narrative beyond mere jump scares, and they also prefer immersive experiences that influence outcomes (92.52%). Hauntu The Curve deliberately offers different narrative pathways, allowing each participant to construct their own unique and personalised trip through the terrifying world we’ve painstakingly crafted in the first episode,” said Johnny Ong.

Hauntu The Curve, in its entirety is a tribute to ingenuity at its core. The immersive entertainment experience uses cutting-edge technology and meticulous engineering to offer a genuine theatrical fear experience, setting a new standard in the field of immersive entertainment. The thoroughly designed adventure unfolds against a backdrop of expertly crafted set designs, powerful sound effects, and engaging images, creating an environment that blurs the lines between reality and fantasy.

Bold Choices Made at Pepsi Lost in Karak Event – May 2022

Bold Choices Made at Pepsi Lost in Karak Event

Pepsi Lost in Karak - Tribe Villagers

Kuala Lumpur, 30 May 2022. The night of May 30th marked the end of Pepsi Lost in Karak, which was brought to life at The LINC, Kuala Lumpur. The event, which was presented by Pepsi, was the result of a collaboration between Livescape and Hauntu, which then allowed Pepsi’s vision of having both a truly immersive horror experience based on the legends of the Karak Highway as well as a substantially successful event to come to life. The event’s tickets were immediately sold out way before the actual date of the event, and the event itself had a turnout of over 95% of players who were prepped and ready to make the boldest decision that they could, making this truly immersive pop-up event a great success.

Pepsi Lost in Karak event Turn Up

Over the years, Hauntu has been known to provide the most immersive haunted house experience that they have to offer in South East Asia, and their aim for Pepsi Lost in Karak was similar; bringing both the intense scare factor as well as the fascinating storyline into a pop-up event, as well as uplifting the art of theater and showcasing the amazing talent that these actors have, seeing that the performing arts scene was very negatively affected due to the pandemic.

A total of 11 actors who are a part of the performing arts scene were supported and given a platform to display their talents and skills through their respective roles in Pepsi Lost in Karak. “They provided me an opportunity and the space to give me the freedom of my character with no outside control.” “We are free to express, show off, and experiment with the audience, and this is extraordinary,” says Sindu, one of the actors for the event. Other actors who were involved have also expressed their immense gratitude towards the event for allowing them to have a chance to once more portray their theatrical talents to the masses that came to experience it. Also, not forget that over 30 production crew members assisted in making the whole event happen in the first place. Without them, there wouldn’t have been a successful event, to begin with.

The truly innovative part of the event that was most talked about by the players was the originality of the story. While it is based on the urban legends of the Karak Highway, it also featured a few more original and unique story arcs, such as the inclusion of a secluded tribe that secures the woodlands and the dilemma that players face at the end of choosing to either save humanity or the forests that they find themselves stranded in.

Other notable elements that contributed to the story’s being immersive were the realistic props and ambience of the area, which in turn invigorated the players’ senses and made them feel as if they were actually there. From the usage of actual leaves and plants that make it feel like you’re in an actual forest, to the set design of the bus and hut that makes it feel like you’re really just stranded in these places just off the Karak Highway.

Combining all of these elements resulted in a truly successful event that was, above all, enjoyable for those who played, whilst gaining a truly unique experience out of it. “One thing that we’d definitely try to do next time is to have a longer game time for the players while making sure the price is also affordable for them.” said Johnny, Head of Experience at Hauntu, when asked about the customer feedback.

The most interesting turn of events that took place throughout the event would definitely be the decisions made by the players. “To capture the essence of bold that Pepsi has been championing for, there were many bold choices made by the participants of this event,” said Ka Wai, the head of marketing for this project. Notably, Some groups opted to make a choice for the sake of humanity, while others opted for the decision that helped preserve the forest itself. These decisions definitely highlighted one of the main goals of the event, which is to get the players to make these bold decisions on their own and have them decide their very own endings.

The Hauntu New Normal to Ensure Your Safety During this Pandemic

As fellow Malaysians, I think we can all be proud of ourselves in how well we have adhered to the Movement Control Order (MCO) to curb the devastating Covid-19 pandemic. Now that we are in the Recovery phase of MCO and as the stay-home challenge is loosened, Hauntu is reopening our doors to you. As the top attractions in Kuala Lumpur, we pride ourselves in putting our customers first and have taken the steps and put sop in place to ensure we are one of the safe things to do during this testing time.

1. You Can Own A Private Session

You don’t play with people outside of your group. Enjoy a private session experience with no additional charges during C/RMCO or NRP.

We ask that customers wear a face mask to our outlets both as a measure to protect themselves as well as others. As well, our actors will be performing with a face mask as a protective measure as well.

Finally, we are happy to report that the mall the LINC KL where we are located has significantly stepped up their cleaning regimes and sanitize the premises frequently.

These are trying times for us all both as a nation and the world. However, it is through our combined efforts that we have succeeded to flatten the curve of the Covid-19 outbreak in Malaysia. For all of us who have dutifully “duduk rumah” and for those of us who have been made to work from home, the transition back to normalcy will take some time. Nonetheless, we are happy to report that not only are we here to give you the fun and excitement you missed, we will strictly adhere to the above measures indefinitely to ensure your safety as well as ours.

HAUNTU Theatrical Haunted House Is NOW OPEN

MALAYSIA’S FIRST THEATRICAL HAUNTED HOUSE, HAUNTU OPENS IN THE LINC KL

Hauntu The Linc - Haunted House in KL

Kuala Lumpur, 25 January 2019 – The team behind the global escape room franchise Breakout, proudly debuts its newest venture, Hauntu, bringing the first immersive Haunted House in KL and the first of its kind in Malaysia. Located on the Second Floor of The LINC KL, Hauntu is now open for public access, giving the chance for Malaysians to immerse themselves in the engaging horror experience that has never been offered before.

Hauntu, pronounced haunt-you, is a theatre performance and a haunted house combined into a single immersive experience – bringing a blend of live theatre, role play, and storytelling that come together. It is Malaysia’s first and only immersive horror experience, where guests take on the roles of characters in a story, interact with other characters performed by real actors and make decisions that will affect the outcome of the experience. For fans of the Netflix show, Westworld, the concept of Hauntu in KL should be easy to understand.

The idea of Hauntu was born after identifying that the demand by Malaysians for new and unique experiences is growing exponentially. “Traffic to Breakout experienced double-digit growth every month – we knew that Malaysians were actually not just ready, but craving for more different experiences”, Johnny Ong, co-founder of Breakout and Hauntu explains.

For individuals who are hungry for adventure, those who are thrill seekers, Hauntu, is set to bring unique experiences designed just for them.

Covering an area of 7,000 square feet, this 1st haunted house in kl welcomes guests to check in to Colle Eastern Hotel, a hotel constructed in the architectural style of British colonial buildings of Old Malaya. Featuring 1950’s style fixtures and furniture, participants will not only get to take on roles within the storylines in the infamous hotel containing a dark mystery, but also get to experience Malaysia in different eras – from its pre-independence period right up to the present.

Much more than a haunted house, Hauntu highlights three interconnected storylines that revolve around the Colle Eastern Hotel, which is filled with mystery and the paranormal. Over the span of three months, one story will be revealed for the public to experience each month. As the three stories are interconnected, guests will still be able to have the complete experience regardless of which story they begin their Hauntu experience with.

“Unlike Breakout, where the aim for guests is to escape and solve puzzles – at Hauntu, the guests take on character roles within the story of the month with the objective of committing a fictional crime or completing a mission”, Ong further explains.

Hauntu | Real Live Actors

In Hauntu, a cast of 6 to 10 actors who are integral to the theatrical story, will perform their characters in full costume including bellboys, witches, and chambermaids, among other, ensuring that each guest in each story has an authentic and eerie experience.

Hauntu is open daily from 11am to 11pm, last admission is at 10pm. Admission fee is priced at RM58 per person. For more information or to uncover the stories at Hauntu, visit https://ihauntu.com/book  for bookings – who knows, you may never want to leave…
